Olive Bolton pupils grab a slice of life skills with Warburtons

Our Year 1 pupils are equipped with an important life skill – that of making a sandwich – thanks to a classroom visit from Warburtons.

We hosted a visit from the Bolton baker’s School Visitor Catherine Blinkhorn on Wednesday 29 March. After learning about healthy eating and basic food hygiene, the five and six year old pupils were tasked with buttering their own bread and choosing fillings to make their own sandwiches.

Our Principal Dawn Forshaw said:

“It’s important to our school community to establish positive links with local businesses. Warburtons delivered a wonderful hands-on sessions for our Year 1 pupils that supported our work around health and looking after our bodies.

“The children were rightly proud of themselves for making their own sandwiches – and, of course, they all enjoyed eating the end products!”

Catherine Blinkhorn, a School Visitor at Warburtons, said:

“With a fifth of Year 6 children being classified as obese[1], it is essential that we are educating children about the importance of healthy eating in primary schools. We are passionate about making health and wellbeing engaging for young children.”

Warburtons has been running a National School Visitors Programme for over 20 years. The programme is delivered across Britain by 22 School Visitors, sharing their knowledge of bread making, food and healthy eating and teaching the importance of a balanced diet, hygiene and safety, food waste and basic food preparation in an enjoyable and creative way. In the academic year 2015/16, over 1,200 workshops were delivered to over 34,000 children.
