Pupils recognise our unsung heroes at special awards ceremony

Our staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes were the centre of attention at a special event to recognise their hard work.

An awards ceremony and celebratory tea was held as part of the national ‘Stars in our Schools Day’ to pay tribute to our unsung heroes.

Support staff were sent invitations inviting them to a top secret event on Friday, 23 November and were then surprised with an awards ceremony to show everyone’s appreciation of them. During the special assembly they were each presented with thank you certificates, a gift and a handmade present from the school’s pupils.

They were then treated to a celebration tea party with lots of tasty treats laid on by the Pupil and Parent Shuraa (Council) and were given the morning off to relax in recognition of their value to the school and its pupils.

Principal Sabina Saeed said:

“Support staff are so important and are vital to the effective running of our school. They are the unsung special heroes of our children’s education, so it’s fantastic that we have come together today to recognise them and say thank you for all they do.”

Stars in Our Schools is a national annual celebration of school support staff spearheaded by the union Unison, the UK’s largest trade union, to celebrate the wonderful work they do every day and to raise awareness of the importance of their roles in children’s education. School support staff help children learn, keep children safe and healthy and make sure schools run smoothly. They are the cleaners, caterers, administration staff, finance officers, teaching assistants, librarians, ICT technicians, parent support advisers and more.
